The Meaning of Democracy in Southeast Asia - Liberalism, Egalitarianism and Participation

This Element contributes to existing research with an analysis of public understandings of democracy based on original surveys fielded in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. The findings suggest that a comprehensive analysis of understandings of democracy is essential to understand political attitudes and behaviours.
