Carl the Crane

Meet Carl, a Florida Sandhill Crane with a big heart, a loud call, and a story to tell. Carl the Crane is a touching, rhyming tale that brings awareness to wildlife conservation through the gentle eyes of a bird who once felt invisible in a fast-moving world. Living on Lakeshore Boulevard with his baby and mate, Carl finds an unexpected friend in a kind human who helps him cross the road and offers a safe, shady space under her big oak tree. As Carl reflects on the changes in his once peaceful home, now filled with cars, pavement, and noise, he reminds readers of the importance of compassion, coexistence, and care for the natural world. With beautiful imagery, warmth, and heart, Autumn B. Cochella's poem invites readers of all ages to slow down, look around, and be a friend to the Carls in their own neighborhoods. A poetic tribute to nature, kindness, and hope.
