Seeing the Lionesses lift the EURO 2022 trophy was not only amazing to witness as an England fan, it meant so much more that. Not so long ago, between 1921 and 1970 the FA actually banned women from playing football on any FA-affiliated pitch, saying "the game of football is quite unsuitable for females and ought not to be encouraged".
Women missed out on generations worth of talent and basically had to reset the clock from 1970, even then though it wasn''t a smooth ride. The first professional women''s league in England wasn''t introduced until 2018!
