After the Annex - Anne Frank, Auschwitz and Beyond

The missing final chapter of Anne Frank's storyMillions know Anne Frank through her diary. Few know what happened after the final entry. When Otto Frank returned from Auschwitz in 1945, he began a heartbreaking search for his wife, daughters and the four other people who had hidden with them in the Secret Annex. Drawing on years of archival research, survivor testimony and previously overlooked evidence, historian Bas von Benda-Beckmann reconstructs, as closely as history now allows, the final journeys of Anne, Margot, Edith, the Van Pels family and Fritz Pfeffer through Westerbork, Auschwitz, Bergen-Belsen and beyond. Published in collaboration with the Anne Frank House, After the Annex is the first comprehensive account of the fate of all eight inhabitants of the Secret Annex after their arrest—a powerful work of historical detective work and remembrance.
