Jim Wallace – Lord Wallace of Tankerness – was for decades an influential Liberal politician who achieved the rare distinction in politics of being disliked by almost nobody. A long-standing Member of Parliament for Orkney and Shetland, he became leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrats in 1992 and helped create the devolved Scottish Parliament via the cross-party Scottish Constitutional Convention. His varied career later saw him serve as a minister in both the Scottish and UK governments, as well as Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland. This short tribute volume includes contributions from friends, family and colleagues on every aspect of Jim’s career and character.
