Thomas Carlyle (1795–1881) was one of the most influential authors of the nineteenth century. These volumes, first published in 1884, form the second part of James Anthony Froude's classic biography of Carlyle, describing his life and literary work after 1834. Volume 2 covers the years 1850–1881.
