This volume is a Festschrift to Professor Sverre Bagge, honouring his lifelong commitment to medieval studies. Yet, it is also a coherent volume that attempts tom come to terms with important aspects of the creation of the medieval Europe - in particular the northern periphery. The three sections of this volume deal with the interrelated phenomena and process of Christianisation, social transformations, and historiography.
