West African Waythe Story of the Burma Campaigns 1943-1945, 5th Bn. Gold Coast Regt., 81 West Africa

A well written, detailed and accurate account of the 5th Bn The Gold Coast Regiment in both Kaladan campaigns, with many illuminating comments on the problems and tactics of jungle fighting. The author, in his Foreword, states: "This book...has not been compiled from official records...I simply wanted to write a story of what I saw, heard and felt...I wanted people to know what the Africans did rather more than they would in sifting the mass of facts and figures in an official history". A Roll Of Honour, reports on patrols carried out by Maj. H Olszewski, Capt. A W Gaulod and Lieut. Rotherand Honours and awards (including extracts from citations for awards to Africans) complete this excellent history.
