After living and gardening in the intense humidity of the equatorial region for twenty five years the author was free to seek again her earthly paradise . the quiet, calm, health giving tranquillity of Norway. She would re-establish her sixty year interest in photography and seek out the delicate colours of the northern wild flowers in contrast to the flamboyant foliage of her domicile. Experiences of her past have coloured this short account in an attempt to simply explain contrasting living in the arctic and equatorial region, and provide a brief historical setting of Gunnerus. life and times. Her love of Norway shines through in her many photographs and an added attraction are the delightful extracts from the sketchbook of Alfred Heaton Cooper RA made in Norway between 1890 and 1906.
