Breastfeeding, Child Health & Child Spacing - Cross-Cultural Perspectives

Breastfeeding has been recognized as a major factor not only in the nutrition of the young child, but also in the health of the mother, patterns of fertility within societies and as a characteristic of a particular culture. First published in 1985, Breastfeeding, Child Health & Child Spacing investigates the relationships between breastfeeding, child health and child spacing from an anthropological perspective. While certain other books have examined the varying significance of breastfeeding in different cultures, this is perhaps the first to consider also the topic of child spacing. Studies are presented from both developed world and the Third World. The volume will thus interest a wide range of workers in child and maternal health (including paediatricians, nurses, and health visitors) nutrition and social sciences (including anthropology, women’s studies and demography).
