Dominika Koter illuminates the central role of social structure in determining how politicians attempt to mobilize voters in sub-Saharan Africa. Based on extensive fieldwork in Benin and Senegal, coupled with analysis of election results, this study will interest students and scholars of democracy, and local, ethnic and party politics in Africa.
