Cultures, Societies and Politics In North Sumatra – Indonesia

This book provides detailed analysis and data about North-Western Indonesia. This involves looking back to history, as well as looking at recent and current contexts. The set of studies presented here helps to decentre our vision, allowing us to avoid seeing Indonesia from a Jakarta or Java-centric perspective. For convenience of the reader, the chapters have been organized into three interconnected sections. As the reader will soon feel, this book represents an effort to contribute to the further development of North Sumatra—in terms of its culture, new and old, its health situation, as well as its social, economic and political activities. This is a daunting task which could only be accomplished by a group of scholars in a broad range of academic fields who are based in North Sumatra.
