The US-China -Taiwan relationship is multilayered and fraught, with widespread implications for the Indo-Pacific region. Utilizing the processes of historical periodization and analysis, this edited volume examines US foreign policy toward Taiwan between 1949 and 2023. Chapters are divided into two sections. Chapters in the first section are devoted to a chronological exploration of US -Taiwan relations during the Cold and Post-Cold War eras. Chapters in the second section delve deeper into specific policy concerns and tools, such as potential regional implications of the Russo-Ukraine war, strategic ambiguity/clarity and hedging policy, and island chain strategy.
