The distinguished German philologist Hermann Hirt (1865–1936) wrote this seven-volume grammar soon after the discovery of Tocharian and the decipherment of Hittite. Volume 6 (1934) is the first of two devoted to syntax, and focuses on the origins and syntactic functions of case, tense and mood.
