Teesside is a conurbation and industrial area in the north-east of England. Less well known than other significant industrial areas such as Tyneside, the Potteries and the Black Country, Teesside has a valuable industrial heritage. Based principally on the towns of Billingham, Middlesbrough, Redcar, Stockton-on-Tees and Thornaby, Teesside was a key area for engineering, iron and steel, shipbuilding and the production of chemicals.Today, chemicals and engineering are still important in an area that has been hit hard by industrial decline.
