A new series for fans of Rebecca Yarros, Sarah J. Maas, and Deborah Harkness, The Department of Dark Errands is a dark, addictive romantasy about a midlife woman forced back into a dangerous magical spy ring—with the lover she thought was long dead.
“A ferocious, emotionally grounded debut…”—Publishers Weekly
Finally... The Harry Potter for midlife women, we've ALL been waiting for!
At forty-five, Nyra Vex has built a quiet life in London, running an apothecary for women whose hot flashes and reinvention look suspiciously like magic. Then a shadowbeast breaches her wards and calls her by name, dragging her back into the Department of Dark Errands, London’s secret magical intelligence service.
Worse, they assign her a partner she never expected to see again. Beck Morran—once her lover, once her greatest mistake—has been dead for ten years. Now he’s back. Changed. Dangerous. And still far too close.
As shadow incursions spread across the city and old secrets begin to surface, Nyra is forced to confront a past she buried and the world she walked away from. Because this time, it isn’t about saving Beck—it’s about stopping the kind of patriarchal power that shouldn’t be trusted with the world.
And some magic doesn’t fade with age. It grows bolder. More powerful than ever.
