Left almost penniless and homeless on the death of their father, sisters Elinor and Marianne need to resolve their problems by marrying well. But when Marianne falls for the duplicitous Willoughby, while cautious Elinor seems to be unlucky in love, they must listen to both their hearts and their minds if they are to find a suitable match.
