Damma's Journey - Cultural Change and Persistence in the Danish Caribbean

The book addresses a central question in Caribbean history: how the journey across the Atlantic influenced the cultural development of Africans in the Caribbean. We know very little about how their identity shifted from being shaped by their connections to various African ethnic groups, language regions, and cities, to being defined by the American slave societies. Damma's Journey is based on an exceptionally rich and extensive body of source material from the first Protestant mission in the Caribbean in the 18th century, a source base that is internationally regarded as unique.
