This book offers a timely and necessary exploration of journalism in fiction, traditionally centered on American media, by analyzing journalistic discourses within European films and television series, and by examining how audiences make sense of these narratives. Adopting an intersectional approach that considers gender, race, sexual orientation, and other dimensions of identity, the book revolves around two main pillars: content and audience. The first objective broadens the scope of analysis to include non-American fictional portrayals of journalism, while the third objective focuses on how different audiences engage with and interpret these representations. Interwoven throughout both is the second objective: to analyze diversity in fictional journalism and understand how audiences from various backgrounds perceive and respond to the inclusion or notable absence of women and minority journalists. This book will appeal to researchers, academics, and postgraduate students who are interested in the intersection of journalism, media representation, and audience reception, within Communication Sciences, Journalism Studies, Cultural Studies, and Cinema and Media Studies.
