Libertas and the Practice of Politics in the Late Roman Republic

New study of the conflicting uses of libertas in the political struggles of the late Roman Republic. By reconstructing Roman political thought and reviewing the debates over specific policies, it shows the causal relation between the idea of libertas and the practice of politics of the late Republic.
