Ørjan N. Karlsson, folks, is, if you ask me, one of Scandinavia’s best crime writers, because The Night Travels Alone will take your breath away. The way I see it, very few writers in Norway keep delivering successful crime novels time and again. […] I take my hat off. With The Night Travels Alone, he consolidates his position as one of Scandinavia’s best crime writers, enough said.

All in all, this is yet another highly successful crime novel from the hand of Ørjan N. Karlsson, which will delight readers in Bodø and beyond. Last time, the dice roll was a somewhat weak five out of six, this time we’re talking a strong five out of six. The next book about Jakob Weber is already on its way, and if Karlsson keeps growing as a crime writer at the pace he’s been keeping up so far, a six-out-of-six might very well be waiting for him.

It says much for Orjan Karlsson’s confidence that he tells his creepy, menacing tale from the viewpoint of no fewer than eight characters, including the murderer. The sudden climax comes with the fabulous lines: “I’m not in danger. I am the danger.” This superb Scandi thriller is the perfect antidote to the plague of tweeness that infects so much crime fiction today.
